It is hard to answer your question directly. It depend on what you are looking for? Are you looking for something you can work on, fix up, somewhere in between or something in pristine condition? There are a lot of trucks out there for sale so it really depends. I bought my 1966 F-250 4x4 in 2005 from a county government in Nebraska who bought it directly from Ford and it is for the most part original. I paid $4000.00 for it. I didn't know if I paid too much or if I got a great deal. I am under the belief; as I have read so many articles, that old iron trucks, like the 61-66 F-250's are not that desirable (collectors). Mine is a stock hiboy with the original body and engine with 42,000 miles. I am restoring it slowly and am keeping it as stock as possible. I wish you well in your efforts to find something. You can check out this sight and Ebay for trucks and you will see what is out there.

When he decides what type of slick he wants Uni, SWB, LWB, flare etc, give the forum the requirements. I know many of us around the US will look. Sending lots of pics and direct information to help with a choice.
I know there quality and price will vary from state to state.
Tom has covered all the above many times and may be the man to find the right truck or trucks. (You can't have just one)

Alan, They normally run somewhere between FREE and 50,000.00.

On a more serious note value is usually determined by which part of the country its in and its overall condition.

Some parts of the country have nothing but rusty trucks and other parts from rust free to very little rust. We all know what labor costs are to fix rust buckets.

Is your friend the one who contacted me very recent?

I have two very nice trucks for sale right now. Is he looking for more of a done truck or one to restore?

If he is going to pay the cost of shipping it my advice would be NO RUST BUCKETS and very minimal if any body damage.

What they sold for in 2008 and what they sell for now are worlds apart. I have noticed a steady decline in prices on Craigslist over the last few years. People are also having to relist them multiple times where that wasn't the case not to long ago.

I also agree with Backyard... buy from the Southwest if you can. Shorter trip to the LA shipyards and solid metal to start with.

$3000 to $4000 is the average daily driver price in the USA , you should be able to find a solid truck that runs decent in that price range. I agree to shop in the Southwest or Northwest part of the country. California , Texas , Arizona , Oregon and Washington State seem to have a nice supply of F100's

There are a lot of them here in the Pacific Northwest but its really hit and miss on the rust issue. If they were left out in the weather and not cared for they will be somewhat rusty here too.

There are a couple decent local trucks here and pricing is all over the map.
Its usually the sellers thought of whats good shape and whats not.

Actual rust free trucks here are few and far between.
Nice straight and rust free trucks are getting hard to come by.

Most have had some type of modifications and been bondo'd up or painted by now hiding what is really underneath.

What is his price range and does he want a straight rust free truck to start a restoration or does he want a super nice driver thats also rust and dent free? A lot of variables here.

I have 2 nice ones for sale right now. Which ever one sells first I will keep the other.

Within the next couple days will have one of the nicest original trucks in the country for sale. Waiting for it to stop raining so I can pull it out of garage and get some nice pics. I was planning on putting it straight on ebay.

Key to buy trucks is Just cause it comes from the south west DOES NOT Mean its good or where it was originally from.........
Trucks by the coast in Calif. do tend to have cancer roof whne up in High Desert are dry BUT Calif trucks all depends where it lived its life,, Some Northern Calif Trucks are good lot depends on previous owner........
Trucks in Neveda Las Vegas area are good But Reno most likely can be rust buckets,,
Trucks along the I-40 in AZ.,NM, Texas most likely bad .........
Trucks along I-20 and I-10 across those states most likely are good but on I-10 west of the Houston.......
Washington/Orgeon/Idaho all have good/bad regions, I bought one from Seattle that was very nice but on 25,000 mile truck and of course used by the Fire Chief.......
Trucks with still faded paint are about the best since you can see through it and never hiding anything,,
Trucks in primer can be touchy,, last 2 F-1's I bought where in primer where nice but could not sell you can tell nobody wanted in primer so I sanded them down clear coted and sold right away.......
Pretty Paint Trucks are nice but will you know what under all that pretty paint........
Spray in Bed Liner trucks no matter what they say chances are the are hiding something and thats why I will never buy a truck with spray in bed liner......
Plastic Bed Liner if it has before I will buy it I will lift up to see whats under it to be sure the floor does not look like a ocean wave to go surfing on and also that bed liner will movewhen going down the road causing the paint to come off thus when it rains its bare metal is rusting away....
also dry desert trucks you might get small varmits building nests thus peeing in all the areas where they hiding causing it to rust as well......
I have been in some remote areas looking at trucks where rainfall is almost nothing but trucks there had cancer due to these varmits or the Sun cause Heat Blisters in the paint and morning dew causes it to rust
Bottom Line on buying any vehicle, get all the pictures you can especilly if you know on that vehicle where all the rust areas are and ask plenty of ?'s
Some tell me I am too picky, well after the miles we might go after one it has to be pretty close to meet my standards

if your gonna pay to ship that sucker you're entitled to a picture of every single angle on that vehicle. I always check the cab mounts, they seem infamous as the first thing to go, at least here in the midwest.

Cab corner with the access cover bolts still nice original plating.
Frame is still nice black etc.



I cannot imagine another 65-66 this nice underneath thats not been re-done and nicer than most that have been re-done

In my area they run from anywhere between $500-5000. The only problem is the majority of then come with a lifetime "will rust" guarantee. Just to much salt in the winter
