1961 F350 Dually Project

Hey y'all,

I'm new to this site and to restoring automobiles. I'd like to introduce my most recent and ongoing project, a 1961 F-350 Dually With 223 6-Cylinder. This is supposedly the truck that was in the 1966 movie "The Chase". (See http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle.php?id=144127) I am seeking advice for new axles and wheels for it. So far, a friend has come over and replaced the distributor, sparks, battery, coil, regulator and we refilled all fluids. She ran pretty well then something was funny with the choke. Turns out it needed a replacement pin, where the original had been rusted in the center. Worked like a charm. Now we are going to cut off the old hitch and bring it into the garage to put new gaskets all around. After that we will be at a standstill. The six lug dually wheels are so hard to find/replace that I would like to go to a newer setup with more wheel options. I have found a few decent parts cars for replacing the axles, such as this one(http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/ ... 25996.html) ,but I am not sure what will work best with my current setup. I'd like to keep it as a dually if possible. Any advice or tips from the veteran Slicksters would be greatly appreciated.

Aboard nice looking truck, do you plan on keeping it stock?
You should be able to find 6 lug tubeless wheels for that. I looked at an F350 last year and it had recent ones, there's a guy local to me [that I can't get in contact with] that just put on a new set this past summer on his.

This is one solid original unmolested truck, I like it!!...and I seem to recall mention at one point that binders (aka: International Harvester) had the same bolt pattern wheels??

Hi Y'all,

I am happy to report that this project is making some progress. We have removed the bed and re-done/Charged what brakes are there...We have cleaned the engine bay and I am starting on the Rear end cleanup. First, I will remove the old hitch to fit it into the garage. Then the engine will get a few new parts and new gaskets.
I got to drive it the other day and it goes froward and backward and stops. Right now, i am still looking for 6 Modern Tubeless Wheels for this truck. I believe they are originally 17.5" six lug at 7.25" the rear rims have alternating flanges on the bolt holes so that the rims lock together. I have noticed modern six lugs on Isuzu NPR box trucks and also on modern E250 Vans...Do any of these wheels have an application for this project?

I have a full set of wheels of my 65 f350. If someone could tell me how to confirm if they are tubeless I'll check into it. They have tires and would let go for a reasonable price and depending where you are in VA I may not be that far away and may be able to meet up.
