Oil Leak
Oil Leak
I have a drip drip drip oli leak that comes from under the driver side dash. It pools on the driver floorboard.
The only thing I can come up with is that it is coming out of the speedo cable.
There are no oil lines for gauges or anything under there.
Is that a possibility?
What could cause it?
If the cable is bad, will the cable off my 75 parts truck interchange?

Re: Oil Leak
sure its not brake fluid coming from the m.c. and dripping off the brake rod
would be real hard for any oil to run uphill on the speedo cable and theres no oil inside
the 75 cable is not a replacement, the dash connector is not the screw on type

Re: Oil Leak

Re: Oil Leak
The m/c and booster are new, that doesnt mean they are not leaking, but it doesnt smell like brake fluid.
Its also very dirty looking oil like it is coming out of the engine or tranny.

Re: Oil Leak
I had same leak on my 62 truck. There was T10 transmission and there was all kind of problems with speedometer. Solved it by selling the truck.

Re: Oil Leak
Bad seal in speedometer adapter on trans, as cable turns works like an auger.

Re: Oil Leak
I just remember this from my uncle's shop from back in 50-60s but don't remember how they repaired, probably a new cable assembly. First I would disconnect from speedometer head to make sure that I where it is coming from. I have some old motor repair books will look at them tommorrow, they sometime unusual things not in newer books.

Re: Oil Leak
Does the 3.03 have a vent? If the vent is plugged that may be building pressure and forcing oil up the cable.

Re: Oil Leak
I could find nothing in my old books. I was sort of guessing when I said seal. Oil should not be in that area of trans to that extentso a vent might cause then cable would auger it to speedometer head. Half a memory is worse than no memory, but I am 70 and that was at least 50 years ago.
