I am sure someone has replaced the padded dash. I have a 66 with a padded dash. The padding is cracked and needs to be replaced. I don't know if I want to replace it. A lot of the dashes look nice and clean without the pad. My question. Is there two different dashes or if I take the pad off can I finish the dash and paint and have it look like it never had the pad on it?
Thanks everyone for all the help so far!

Under the Dash Pad
Looks the same as any steel dash under the pad. It'll require alot of cleaning up and could be pitted with some rust though. IMHO the painted steel looks better and worth the work.

hey Dakota kid, speakin of paint,,do you know how to paint vehicles? or know a good deal in your area?, my primer grey truck needs a upgrade,,
I don't have any contacts with painters. There is a classic group that meets at Scotty's here in town every Wednesday night. I was waiting for this summer to see who they would suggest. Also I posted some pics for my 66 in my profile. Lots of work but it is coming a long.[/quote]

It has a 240, 4-speed. It keeps me busy and out of trouble. Just picked up a new (old) seat today that is in much better shape then mine. Also picked up another painted instrument panel that I don't really need.
I saw a 4x4 Unibody last night. I followed him for a while then he headed out of town North. I spent a couple hours this morning looking at wheels and tires. Can't figure out what to put on and still be able to steer without power steering. Take it easy Jeff.
