My 65' in Classic Trucks! April/08 Classic Cruisers...

Hey everyone, it's been a while since I've posted on here...but I thought I would share this with you. I submitted a brief history and pics to Classic Trucks magazine in hopes of getting into the Classic Cruisers section...and I just got the latest issue April/08 and there it was!! Very cool!! I'm not bragging, I'm just very proud....I put many hours into that truck (as we all do!!) and it's now a part of who I am. Check it out if you get a chance!

We have been in magazines since 2000 when Gary Pratt was a member and worked the forever ford collumn at CT. And even have a published contributor in US......

Its the brimstone and hate letters and e mails that the editors recieve that turns them off of slick 60s.

wonder why they got those? guess its same reason all magazines do but i think those are mostly ignored by the editors. certainly not many get printed for the subscribers to see.

Honestly wasn't me, the only one I ever sent was about the Chebby calendar in a 3 years old issue.

Now, I just don't buy them. I treat it like a "Camaros weekly" or "Raging Impalas monthly" magazine. No matter how much they try and BS me that things have changed there, nothing changes.

Same ol' same ol.

Nice to see some club members in the very back of the mag tho.
I recall Chad being in there many moons ago.

I don't think it's that at all. If their skin is that thin they should get another job. It's probably just tunnel vision. Magazine editors are just like us, they have their own preferences and prejudices based on they personal experiences and history. Also if you'll notice the car and truck magazines are pretty lemming like.
With the current state of the magazine industry (across the board) and the auto mags are no exception they need all the subscribers they can get to justify their existence to their advertisers. Maybe letters to the Publisher (who is responsible for the bottom line) would be more effective than to the Editor. Also it wouldn't hurt if the vendors who sell Ford and Ford Truck parts and accessories requested more coverage of Fords as a condition of advertising.

yeah, fords tend to become the red-headed stepchild in most of those magazines.... It's NOT supposed to be that way!!!! Around my house, my ma's 69 camaro is the Red head of the family... wait, she's a red too!!! haha

it's strange, in most circles, the SBC and C#@^ys dominate. Even down at my local Merle's, the guy we like is a die hard C#@^y guy, gives me a hard time about my ford.... They don't like us much. They all think we need one of their crappy engines in our fords, expect us to accept it when we see one of them desecrating one of Henry's little girls. NOBODY would drop a Ford into a C#@^y though... BLASPHEMY!!!

I really enjoy talking with editors and asked whats up with that guy from canada? Its not about thin skins or egos.. It's about the trucks....Yes TRUCKS......

At least there are classic truck mags out there. Get over the bashings and get real with life. Enjoy the hobby while it lasts.

And every one of them read all their mail.....And know us and John by rep...

Congradulations Adslow65, i'll see if i can find a copy and check it out. I know how ya feel mine is in the Feb issue of Custom Clasic Truck.

Now the rest of you guyes, your'e taking the wind out of his sail.
If ya dont send in pics. to the mags. your'er not even going to get in the back pages. To me the back of the mag. is probably better cause the last thing ya see is what you rember the most.

I do apologize to our friends at the magazines. Please. fill your mags with the same old stuff, and keep putting us and the bumpside guys in the back pages.
Apparently, my influence ( and I seriously find it hard to believe some shmo, from the bald arse Canadian prairie has any such influence) is such that it will keep our trucks from being featured, but not enough to get them to actually ALTER anything they do in their magazines.

I can only withhold the magazine price I will not pay to see the same tired stuff featured, I seriously doubt that is gonna break them any time soon. As for members driven off, I never set off to drive anyone out of here.

I seem to just run with the 85%+- majority, here, higher at Fordification, higher with the Mustang and Torino guys, on engine choice..
whole clubs' worth (not Mustangs) of members that get ignored by magazines..

If magazine editors find me hard to stomach, (and I seriously only ever sent one of them the one email, there has to be some mistake in identity here) I wonder what they might think of all the other guys who don't post in a forum -who just won't buy their magazines-.
Rather than doing them a disservice, they could have made some improvements, and had a whole new pool of buyers to draw from. Sorry I bruised your egos boyz.

But I digress. It IS all about the trucks. Kudos to the boys in the club who got their trucks published, albeit in the back, next to the classifieds. I know they are just as proud of their trucks as the guys in front who paid a hotrod shop big dollars, to build yet another of the trucks that make the featured section. Probably more proud. They did the work themselves.

as im sure everybody here knows, I generally have an opinion and i don't care whose side I fall on, as long as it is a good cause. It makes me sad to see all the high dollar C#@^ys all over the mags and only a very occasional ford. Maybe we just need to send in more stuff to get more stuff published, or maybe the editors just suck and don't like us... well, I don't buy many magazines anyway, so they probably arent lookin for my opinion.... Well, if they actually had somethin worth lookin at (ie Ford, powered by Ford), i might be willin to buy....

If you do not buy the magazines so they really dont give a shit about what you think. Care is given to the readers wishes, a balance of well lets hope we dont piss someone off, in stead of balanced coverage.. Not like Ford motor company, who really doesent care if you love henrys old iron.. as long as you buy their new iron....Mistaken loyalty to a has been, junk bond status automotive maker.

As far as engine choice... If my name is on the title, I own it and really dont care what others think. I will out right tell you i put the chevy in to piss off the ford purists, dont like that tough shit. For older vehicles like Late 50s and early 60s rods, traditional means anything but a piece of crap ford flat head. There were no competitive ford engines that fit the bill to actually fit in the space henry gave. It almost is provedence that the small block chevrolet was designed to be the same physical space as the flathead......Think Duntov was thinking ahead? And what is up with fords plethora of front accessorie packages? Nothing rod friendly there pal.

Give it up. Rods and Fat fenders will have non ford engines till the end of time. No ammount of see no evil hear no evil or speak no evil chevy gimmics will work.......

I agree that there is no sane reason other than space to install a chevrolet engine in a slick.

He has a point. If you don't play you can't win. Sort of like wishing you would win the Lottery but not buying a ticket. Maybe covering them (the mags) up with pictures and story ideas would do the trick.

Maybe it's just me but I am getting a little tired of a couple of "esteemed" members who think their opinion/solution is the only right one and treat those with different ideas or needs like they're idiots. We all have different experiences, needs and resources. I personally joined the site to get ideas on how to maintain and improve my slick as I'm sure most did. Several members are very clever with their modifications and have shared their methods with us, while others seem to be on a ego trip and want to preach to us on how things should be done...their way. They are probably driving more people away from the site than any other reason. Just my 2 cents worth.

I will keep "MY" truck with a ford engine.

I met a guy, old hotrodder with a 32 (I think) Ford Truck about 3 years ago at a local car show. I asked him about his truck, it was very sharp. It was running a 350/350 combo. He said something like, "I retired from the Cleveland (Ford) engine plant a few years back, and bought this truck as something fun to do in my retirement. I got everything looking the way I wanted it, but couldn't get my engine, a crate 302 with a C4 to run decent. I spent a lot of money, time, aggravation and couldn't get it running good or reliable. Had lots of friends try to help me, even took it to a "hot rod" shop. Couldn't get it to run right. Ford gave me some b/s about the warranty and wouldn't help me. So I said, hell with this and bought a 350/350 and rebuilt it and put it in my truck and it's never ran better. Some of my friends are pissed at me, some give me a hard time but understand. Screw 'em, it's my truck and my money and I'll run what I want in my truck."

While I wouldn't do it, I think it's the owner's to do with as they see fit. Lots of cars, trucks, I walk past at shows. I don't like it, I keep moving and keep quiet - Why risk an a$$ whooping over something that ain't really my business? I was with my dad at a show, saw a bumpside with what I thought was an old dealer installed bumper, granted from the era so could be "original" to the truck I guess. My dad asked me about it, and I said I didn't think it was Factory. Some middle age woman shot out of her lawn chair and started cussing me, guess it was her truck.

We just kept quiet and moved on. Since then, I try to watch what I say.

Same with businesses I don't like, I don't buy from them. People I don't like, I try to avoid them.
