Using drop coil springs with DJM drop I-Beams?

Hello everyone!

My name is Adam and I have a question in regards to lowering my 65 Ford F-250 (300 six, 3-speed) I have installed DJM 3" lowered I-beams and I was wondering if I could also use a set of lowered coil springs (I was thinking 2") with the new I-beams or do I need to use stock springs? Would using lowered coils affect the camber too much?? I am installing 77 1/2 ton spindles with power disk brakes (5 bolt pattern) and swapping the rear end with a 1964 F100 9"(5 bolt). I plan on doing an axle over to lower the rear with a c-notch. Just wondering because I don't want the rear lower than the front, just want a nice lowered ride

Any input or advice on this would be greatly appreciated !!!

I was thinking this same thing before the whole new front clip decision and I hear some people say that the 2" drop springs don't affect the camber too bad and is tollerable but then again I hear that with dropped beams and springs it messes up steering and bump steer and other small problems like that. I am interested in what others here have to say about this.

Hey Shawn, thanks for the reply. I am currious to see what others say as well!! This has been on my mind for a long time, and I have searched the internet and came up short....I wasn't sure who else to ask so hopefully someone here can shed some light on this!

Here are my thoughts...

I would NEVER use droped Coils on an I beam truck.

If the I-beam is about 4ft long and you use a 2in droped coil...you will change the camber almost 2.4 deg!!

That is way to much! I-beams are not ment to be droped.

Nice to hear from someone from my old stompin grounds. Formerly from around Barrie and NewLowell myself. Welcome to the board!

I have heard that there is increased steering difficulty with the dropped beams. To also use dropped springs would likely exaggerate any problems further. Also changing the camber, even a small amount would create uneven tire wear as well as give you the possibility of a "Corvair like" tripping effect under hard cornering. The wheel actually would try to pull under the truck with the body trying to go over the wheel. If you brake a shock it would be disastrous. But this is all just my opinion on the matter!

Take a look at my 65, I have the drop beams. Just not sure if the PO used the drop springs or not.

I have exactly 4 inches of ground clearance at the Spring Mount bolt.

If it was me knowing what I know now I would get my money back from djm.I havent had nothing but trouble from djm since I put there beems on my truck

Thanks guys for all of your input!!! I am sure I will have more questions as I continue with my project..It's nice to have somewhere to turn for help if needed....

I guess I will have to be content with the 3" beams..I am doing this stuff to improve my truck, not ruin it!!!

Dave - That is awsome that you are from this area!! I lived in Barrie as well for 3 years....just moved south of Collingwood last September. So why did you go east?
