My 1966 F100 Shorty Project (It's a driver!)

Post by f100matt »

I bought her on August 18, 2007 from an elderly gentalmen in Silverdale, Wahington near Bangor Sub Base. A freind of his had passed away and he bought the truck from his estate. The freind had bought the truck new in 1966, in San Deigo, California while in the navy and drove it up to Bremerton, Washington some time later. He replaced the original 6 cylinder and three speed for a V8 and c6 tranny. He painted it in a tri-tone white/sliver/brown. He parked it in 1976 and it sat since. When I bought for $500 it iwas rust free with a blown motor and frozen brakes. I drug it home and began working on it.

Image

The interior was rough, but the padded dash had no cracks

Blown Engine

Image

I pulled a running 352 and a four speed out of my parts f250 and stuck them in the F100

Image

Image

After I got her running again and sorted through a bunch of electrical problems i drove her until August 08'

Image

Image

In Augest i started on the body work (my first attempt at any kind of body work) , fixing most of the dents and spraying on some primer.

Image

Droped her off at the paint shop this January and got her back a week latter. It came out alright, i got what i payed for. I aint no show finish but it is a good daily driver quality and it will look dam fine rolling down the highway. 8)

-Custom center console
-Hidden radio
-paint the steering wheel to match
-CB?
-bed liner
-new emblems
-chrome bumper
-vintage license plate
-new wheels and tires

Finaly got some time to work on the truck this weekend. Installed the rear window without too much trouble, but the windshield fought me. After figuring out which side of the gasket went up and which was down i spent about an hour trying to get it on, then after putting the trim in the gasket, i fought with the trim clasps. Finally when i got around to putting the glass in the truck, i had to take it out three times and finally got it to set right. But all that counts is that its in and it looks great! :D I began to reinstall the passanger side door, but my attemps at adjusting it correctly failed.

I think i will replace the sweep spedo instrument panel with this one, i like it better, might change the color or find a chrome one.

I checked the windshield for leaks with soapy water and an air compressor and it does not leak, i will probably use a little silicon to make these spots lay down better.

Making some good progress there. Helps having something pretty straight with little rust.

I like the color choice also, not a color that is usually seen on a slick.

LOVE the color, can't wait to see it finished.

If I was gonna change the color of my '66, that's probably what I'd go with. Is it Ford's Dark Shadow Gray?

Nice work on the assembly. :thumright: Silicon doesn't have much strength to glue down
cupped rubber edges like that.Try some of the good hobby shop(such as Zap)THICK super glue.
Clean the rubber & paint surface really well-apply a tiny amount to the underside of the rubber & press down carefully,
so the glue doesn't ooze out onto the paint. You can also lay down a piece of tape just under the rubber
lip to keep the glue off the paint. The super glue works on rubber really well(&also your fingers  )but don't drip any on the paint.

It's been awhile since i was last on and have gotten the truck back on the road 8) . I am going to be using it as my daily driver for now until i fix or replace my pos ranger. I will slowly start to put the interior together including carpet, headliner, new upholstery, center consol, door pockets, door pannels and so on, but it is not my top priority right now. For now i plan to install three point seat belts and a new radio in the glove box. Next winter i plan to do my power disk brake swap and possibly a 3 speed overdrive transmission and hopefully a four barrel intake and headers....Looks like im going to need to rob a couple banks
