Western PA Guys - Found a Deal, Need Help!!!

Post by daveg66 »

So, I took my slick for its first ride this year, a quick trip to get some gravel for the driveway. The guy at the yard asks what year my truck is, I tell him a 66. He then tells me that his boss has 3 old Fords in a garage across the road and wants to sell them. He thinks they are all 66's and calls his boss. Sure enough they are all 66's. This I have to see, and I wait around until he can get away for a few minutes. I go into this old garage, and there is a long bed 2wd, a short bed 2wd with a chopped top, a 4wd F100 chassis, another cab, doors, fenders, grilles, and who knows what else. I'm amazed, I've been driving past this building for 20 years and never knew what was in there. My dilema is this: The price he is asking seems reasonable for the pile of stuff that is there. But, I can't store too much of it, and it really is a little more than I should spend right now. So, do any of you local slicksters want to make a deal on some stuff? There is probably enough to get the major chassis and body parts for 2 complete trucks. One truck has an FE, and there are other drivetrain parts around. I didn't have time to really inventory any of it. It's in various conditions, but there looks like a lot of good stuff. I would hate to see it go to the crusher, but it's more than I can handle. Sorry for the long post, but we need to save this stuff!!! Help!!!

Couldn't get any pictures today, didn't have my camera. I'm going to try and do a closer inspection next week.

As it looks today, there are 3 trucks. All projects, no drivers.

4 wd long bed chassis, has both axles, steering gear, all the wheels are on it, so it appears the brakes are there. Don't know what engine it was set up for. There is a transfer case and some other stuff next to it. There is also a cab next to it, but it looks rough from what I could see. Floor and cab mounts are rotted, but has uncut radio dash, CC trim with sweep speedo. Not much to work with.

Next is an F100 long bed with an FE in it, didn't get to check the trans. Front clip and core support are removed, but the rest of the body doesn't look too bad, but I didn't have time to crawl around underneath. Also has CC trim and sweep speedo. Floor seemed OK, didn't get to check the cab mounts.

Then, there is a short bed 2wd. It looks like it has the cab from the 4wd chassis, it is the older style with the step in the door jambs definitely not a 65-66 2 wd cab. The cab has what looks like about a 4" chop, and it doesn't look too bad. The roof was quartered, and filler pieces welded in, etc... no windshield or back glass that I saw. The doors had glass in them, but again, not enough time to really check it out. The floor looked OK, and it is on a twin I beam chassis, so some kind of cab mounts must have been fabbed. No engine in this one, coundn't tell what it was set up for.

Also saw 2 doors in the bed of the swb, large opening 4wd fenders, 2wd fenders, grilles, a not so good core support, tailgate, seat, gas tanks, and a bunch of other stuff. There is quite a collection of parts, it seems like there might have been another parts truck or 2 involved at some point.

I'm looking for a project truck, but I don't really care for the chop top. If someone was interested, this has the tough part done.

Planning on calling the owner next week and going to have a closer look, with camera. My understanding is that they want to sell the whole mess. I don't have room to store it all, but maybe someone else will want some of it.

Oh yeah, this is about 15 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, near Russellton.

The 4x4 has no interest to me, and it sounds like it's a parts truck. The chopped roof negates any interest in the short bed. I already have a long bed. 8) Sounds mostly like a collection of parts. Keep us posted, but I can't say I'm overly excited for myself.

Sorry, no pics. Just got back on line after a computer wipeout. Last time I was at the gravel yard, the owner told me everything was sold. Don't know who bought it all, but they got a super killer deal.
