I do also love the refit front bumper. I don't think I would pull it into the front more, just narrow and angle it for a smoother fit. I thought about doing this to my 66 a couple years ago. Nice of him to show me what it looks like before I cut up a good bumper.

You know, it's almost like you're better off NOT finishing your truck because people will give you far more slack on something you're working on than something that is finished.
I'm sure people at the cruise shows wonder why I brought a tatty truck with a rusted out hood to display with the million dollar shop built hot rods. I honestly don't give a hoot what they think. It's my truck and I like it, flaws and all. I see lots of garish things done to cars that I can't believe people think make it better but do my best to keep my comments to myself. This place sometimes sounds like a bunch of women at a quilting bee, gossipping about the local town.

Anytime you modify a vehicle, you open yourself up to criticism. The people building these vehicles know that other people will pick it apart. The more modifications, the more chances of criticism. The workmanship appears to be very good, but it is difficult to tell everything from the photos. There are several things about that truck that I don't like, but it looks to be well built with quality. I personally lean towards a more original stlye build, but that's because I like a truck to be a truck.

13 grand plus and 4 days to go. I am running down the street to find the 8 year old ADD kid right now to lay out my flames. Looks like this one might top out past 20 G's, ...and that's good for us!

I don't usually get involved in too many discussions on here. I like the truck. If you take a real good look, you will see that the gentleman had put a lot of time AND thought into it. He is a brave man in deed. The arm rest is a step in a different direction. Very cool. The front bumper slid back gives it the more custom look that is suttle. The hard bed cover is a good choice. Looks nice and clean. No buttons for a cover. Tu-tone paint breaks up the boring standard scheme. The flames are something to be proud of to show off his skills in painting.
I'm surprised he didn't smooth the tailgate. But that's not what he wanted. He did it his way and is very proud of it.
I think he deserves a pat on the back from the biggest and best truck club ever. NOT bashed. Come on guys. Would you want to be part of a club known as pickers?
I know I could never do that good. I wouldn't want to see my truck posted on a club and being picked apart by others. I know there's plenty of picking on mine. BUT, That's the best I can do and the way I want it. I didn't farm it out.
Maybe he did farm it out,who knows. But, it was done to his likeing.
I say he deserves an ATTA BOY. :thumright: :2cents:

I can tell you for a fact that it is not the R/W ebay truck. I can also tell you the owner, Jim did all the work himself in his garage. He built the engine, modified the Volare A-frames to lower the truck, and painted the truck. The hood and the driver's door came from the Truck Farm. I saw it during construction. I like Jim's truck and wish he would keep it. This is the 3rd truck he has built that made the magazines.
I agree that sometimes it would be better to not finish your truck and put your neck on the chopping block here.

I don't get where you people figure that guys within the club get their finished trucks trashed. That, IMO, is just not true.

Even guys in the club who have put their trucks up on ebay (Vinnie, me, Dane come immediately to mind) got no trash talk.

It's strangers and their ebay trucks who get the workover, and this points out the flaws to someone within the club who is looking to buy that truck. A good thing, as I see it.

I Agree Johnny,,, I really think that every truck whether it be the best looking or worse needs to have some things looked at if this helps to improve whether it be looks or safety,, I know that if I did not know a single thing about trucks came here and saw all the different trouble spots that would help me out... I know we have helped a lot of people over the phone explaining what is right or wrong on all year trucks, of course we do not know everthing about trucks but we do have acess to anything I need to know + This goes back to one of my previous post on this subject

I think the truck is awesome.Period.
I couldn't care less what clip,column,diff or mill/trans is in it.As long as its kept on the road and driven around.Its better then any new POS car thats being built these day from the factory.

Maybe in all your spare time on here you could put together a tech thread on whats the "perfect" and "only" way to build a Slick.

One of you bitched about the Volare front clip.Well it may not be the best frontend to put in one of these(what 3rd best on your list) but it sure as hell drives way better then the stock frontend.Way safer too I might add.

I've sent plenty of guys to this site and some of em couldn't be bothered to participate after they looked threw the bitchfests.

This owner/builder needs a huge pat on the back for all the work hes done on this truck.

Some of these post make great sense but like I said before some of us that have been here for awhile tend to look after each other or maybe come up with new ideas or shortcuts,, lot of us do watch E-VIL Bay and post to look at items wherther its new ideas, bad ideas or mis-reprented parts like this one item # 140146816804 he looked at the Mfg.'s Numbers on back and assumes 1964???? and of course if somebody did not know came on this site to ask this is where somebody would speak up like Uncle Skip. JC, Garbz, Hawkrod or anybody else here... Anybody asks me I say build it the way you want it since I am not the one doing the maintance on it,,, keep a cheat sheet so you know what goes with what for breakdowns...

My alter-ego works on my Bricklin almost every day, and says little about it lest it bore someone. But my Divorced-Woman clark kent style secret identity, who is tired after beating her head against the wall working on an unfinished Slick for four years,and in excess of $25,000, comes in here and (CRIME OF THE CENTURY) tells people she doesn't like flame paint jobs... or the Volare clip she had on her last truck.

How dare she do that. She should be telling the world what a wonderful thing she thinks phoney cheesy-looking flames are, and how (although mushy and vague), the Volare clip is the best thing since sliced bread, followed only by the durability of the MII. She should wish a Buick nailhead in every Slick that didn't already have a SBC, and be supplying pre-warped hardwood for bed floors.

Or not.

Second...some of you guys are mixing apples and oranges.
If a vehicle is presented as one thing and can be proven to be something else , ie, "original" 289 powered, or decoding the vin. This is helpful info to a newbie.

Flaws are one thing opinions are another. Opinions are not facts and to what end does voicing an opinion hope to accomplish.? Do you think the man will repaint the truck or build another frame?

To tear apart another's choices, really serves no purpose other than to make one feel better about themself.

You know there are things about it that are not what I would do.

I could pick on alot of things about it I don't like, but it has a Ford Motor in it, so I will let the rest slide.

And you know it has 31 bids and is up to 16K with 3 days left. I kind of like the quote, "Money talks, BS walks".

As far as bids go it is kicking the sh!t out of the funny topped truck in Houston.

For every opinion there is in this thread there's at least one opposite one..actually many more seem to like that truck than any who said they didn't. I personally like the truck too, but there are elements in it that I don't.

Now, if you think that things for sale are not open to criticism, maybe you could spend an afternoon on a dealer's lot. If people LIKED every car or truck there, we could go back to Henry's ideal of having black model T's for every one.

The truck is on eBay.. likened, therefore, in my pigeon-like mind to be sitting on a dealers lot. But, what , we are only allowed to say nice things about it? Guess we should all have that exact same truck then..

The builder is not from our club, but Greg the TF knows him. Common courtesy would keep anyone from insulting someone's vehicle if they were a member here. That's not the case. If it were your truck up there though, and I said I didn't like yellow... what, are you gonna cry? Whothehellcares? I sure don't give a hoot if you like blue..!

So. this thread has got too many of my opinions in it already. Apparently, we are supposed to only express opinions that fall into a different category.

OK, I for one do not believe that spouting off about {insert chosen detail} is bashing. I haven't noticed 1 word smacking on the quality, workmanship, etc of the truck. I see things on some VERY NICELY done vehicles that I don't like either. I kinda figure the comments that boil down to "blaa isn't to my personal taste" are just that, personal opinions. I sure there is someone in here that can't stand my red wheels with chrome lugs. I'm not offended but I am happy with the result for the time being which is fine. Alot of us have things on their trucks that I wouldn't personally do to mine, I may even say that. I am NOT going to tell them to change it either though. Hey if they like it and it's well executed, GREAT! I personally like the truck in general, I would change the wheels if I bought it though. I am not big on Volare fronts either but the guy did a nice job on it anyway, just I wouldn't do it myself. I don't think that's a slam, is it? So JC doesn't like flames, guess we won't be seeing any on the Brick or the Slick, but that's cool too.
