doner for F350

Post by holmboy »

Found the donor I have been waiting to find for a F350 build. It is a 1974 extended cab F350 Camper Special. Has a 390 with power steering and power breaks. I found the thread in "projects and builds" but didn't find much on this particular swap. Looks like the radiator support and front cab mounts should match up exactly. I will need to fab something for the rear cab mounts since the frame widens under the cab and of course the difference between the standard and extended cabs but that looks fairly simple. I am planning on putting a stake bed or utility bed on it so the wheel base is not a problem either. If anyone else has done this swap to a 73-79 frame and has any helpful hints or things to watch out for I would appreciate any input.

rad support mounts will work fine, front cab mounts need mods.i put the early cab mounts on my new frame.
firewall needs mod for later dual brake master cyl. and later steering column. dash needs mod for column as well.

i used a 72 4x4 frame, so my rears cab mounts lined up.

If you actually found an F350 SuperCab and not an F250 then you are way ahead. The F350 frame does not widen out like the other F series light trucks do. You will find that everything will be much closer than you expect as the frame widths on the F350 were pretty much unchanged from 61-79 (except the 77-79 4X4 SuperCab F350's). This makes the F350 an ideal frame swap candidate. Hawkrod

forgot about that but its true.

a wrecker bed i took off from a 77 f350 fit right on a 61 frame.bolt holes were still right on the rails.(not the same one in the pics)

you still will have the steering and firewall issues though.

I'm not sure what this truck is for sure then. It has the F350 badges but the frame widens out under the cab. It looks like the front cab mounts and the radiator support mounts still line up correctly though and those are the more important ones.

Thanks for the replys. Looking forward to Iowa if I can get my vacation for that week.
