What to choose for mufflers?

Post by MattsIASlickShop »

I think I have it narrowed down to two choices for my 390, but I thought maybe I would get more feedback from those who might have them.
I think I want either Flowmaster original series 40's or Flowmaster super 40's.

Mufflers

Post by Model_T_46804 »

I have 40's on hopped up Mustang GT. They're good mufflers, have good flow, and are built to last but man are they loud!

I run the original 40s and think it sounds good. You heard it . I have a 1 1/2" crossover just after the collectors and factory 89 Mustang GT tailpipes. Ya got to have tailpipes!

I can send ya pics if you want, cause it is set up kinda different. The muffllers are up-and-down and the tailpipes are canted way in and bolted together at the top. It fits well even tho it may seem odd.

Matt, I have the original 40's on my 66 with a 390. The pipes exit in front of the rear wheels. You have had to listen to it several times.

I'm running DynoMax Race Magnums. They got a straight though design and aren't no where near as loud as as the FlowMasters.

Now I got the dual chambered Flowmasters on my V8 T-Bird and you can't here the radio at all.
