I am getting started on the rebuild of my newest acquisition the LTL 9000. I know its not a Slick, but its going to haul a couple of Slicks and you guys will be seeing it at the shows.
Today I refurbished my dash pad. The old dash pad had a chunk of rubber missing and I found a good pad at the junk yard. It took a lot of cleaning and a few coats of vinyl dye to bring it back to life. While I had the dash out I took the liberty to reconnect the broken and loose Bowden cables that operate the heater/AC unit. Two had broken tabs that attach it to the control head and one was completely off the A/C temp switch. Attaching the one to the A/C temp switch was the bugger bear. I had to remove the air cleaner from the under hood fire wall and actually remove the box that holds the heater core and the A/C evaporator to get to it. That took all afternoon.

For 5 years I was a service advisor at a Ford Truck Dealership in Illinois. What a fun time! (not always true!) Anyway, I had to not only know the warranty of Ford products, but also Allison, Detroit, Cummins, Cat, etc, etc, etc.
Anyway, I am curious as to what engine/tranny is in your LTL-9000 and how many miles are on it?

I think I'll go to the "Spousal Avoidance Center" (workshop) for a while...

Jake the engine is a 400 Cummins with a (12513) thirteen speed. As for the miles I do not know as the odometer is broken at 350,000. It would be hard to guess, I will say the truck has tight steering and the front end is good and tight also. The engine runs strong and does not use excessive oil.

Alan Mclennan wrote:Michelle, is it Bogie drive?, and if so, are you keeping it that way?, nice rig!
Yes Mac, and I am stretching it out to 246 inches of wheelbase and keeping the bogie. Here are a picture of what it will look like when finished. The only difference will be the sleeper. The sleeper pictured is an 80" and since they are now impossible to find I am installing a 60" of the same design as the one pictured.

I put my new bumper on today. We are having a truck show here Saturday and I wanted it to look good. I will have to take it back off next week. I start stripping the truck for painting next week.

Great looking tractor Michelle, when you say "bogie" are you taking about "Hendrickson" style rear suspension w/walking beams and leaf springs?............Dave
A bogie is the rear end. A double bogie is a tandam rear. It can be a Hendrickson or any suspension. My truck had a Hendrickson four spring and not the walking beam. I am installing a Hendrickson air ride. Ford used a lot of New Way and Hendrickson air ride units on their trucks. The Hendrickson air ride units were lighter than the New Way units.
Brian, I have a retired friend coming over to help me get the L series preped and ready for painting. I have less than two months to paint it and to install the rear cut off. That is more than I can do alone and besides I do not trust my welding abilities. I have a friend here in town that is a professional welder and he is the same one the welded the cut off on my N series. If I get behind I will be calling for a work/cook out party so keep your computer tuned in. I will be posting some more pictures this afternoon.

That sounds like a fun time - especially with all the fun those guys in Arizona have been having.

Alan Mclennan wrote:Chelle, the terms are a bit different down here!, A bogie down here is what you referred too as a double bogie, 8 wheels
Alan, you got me to thinking about the above. The more I think about it I do not recall ever hearing anyone mention a single bogie. I have to concede that a bogie would be a tandem axle unit.

Yeah, I think the hood is what made them so good looking, it at least set them apart from the other L series Fords. The truck was orginally red. Here is an interestering tid bit. It was orginally Rangoon Red the same as my 65 Ranger.

I have been working on the LTL. I have just about finished preping it for paint. I did get the door jambs and the inside of the doors painted today. I will finish painting the exterior Monday or Tuesday. I still have to remove the cab lights and the stack before I Paint it.
It was orginally red, I ma paiting it back to the original color, the carpet is ordered and being replaced.
Fresh red paint in the door jambs and inside the doors. The door panels will cover the inside of the doors but I still wanted them to look fresh.
