Y Block water pumps

Post by 62bigwindow »

Where is a good source for water pumps for our trucks? From what I have read and found out at local auto parts stores they are all but impossible to find.i have a few good cores I could have rebuilt if needed but would rather just buy one outright.

If it is the original water pump, it is not the same as a car. However, the car pump, along with the car pulley will work perfectly.

The truck pump will have a 3/4" pilot while the car is 5/8". I think the truck pump is a little longer.

Rebuilt water pumps for Y-Blocks are easy to find. New one's however are almost impossible to find.

Maybe so, but I was looking for a truck pump (not a car pump) and never found one.

That's funny, when I was looking for a water pump last year for my rebuild NAPA O Reilly or Carquest could not get one and I was dealing with guys who work at these houses for 20 years or more. I ended up having the guy at O Reilly sending my pump to Pennsylvania to be rebuilt. Came back and looked like a new one

I looked into getting my old one rebuilt and actually was about to send it off when I tried NAPA.The cost for a rebuild was going to be a little over $100 with shipping.I am seriously thinking of ordering a second to keep on hand.Almost any vintage item seems to be getting harder and harder to find.It took me almost two weeks to locate a C4 and Ford made hundreds of thousands of those.
