65 core support

Post by 62bigwindow »

Can a 65-66 core support be modified to work on a 61?Had anther member point out that the support I have repaired and painted was for a 65 bang.gif .We surmised I could probably remove the angle brackets that the inner fenders bolt on to and drill holes for the 61-64 style. Is that the only mod needed or should I look for a different one?

Shouldn't be a problem. Radiator mounting may require a little work depending on your engine.

If you are capable of taking apart a trucks rusted front end with broken and rusted clips...you can make the radiator support work ! I have even used the radiator that goes with the different support instead of the original radiator ...

Thanks.I just wanted to be sure before I tore into it.I am planning on using a Champion radiator so I will have to mod mounts anyway.

AIUI the 65 core supports are in short supply (one year only). You could probably sell that one at a premium (if it's in good shape) and buy one that fits your truck.
If you understand what you’re doing, you’re not learning anything.

It is in excellent shape.Had all the rust fixed and sandblasted and painted. Its ready to bolt on.I would much rather find the correct year and pass this on to someone who needs it than to modify it to fit my truck.
