Glove box door latch?

Post by charliemccraney »

Anyone devised a latching mechanism for the glove box? Every time I'm frisky at a light the contents empty onto the floor. I have an idea but I'm interested in solutions others have come up with.

Years ago I had same problem with my 62. Fortunately I had one original spring left, but it was broken. It was enough for a spring company to make for me one copy of it and one mirror copy. Worked like a new. But the 62 is now gone and so are the springs, I will need another set of springs to my 61. I think I still have the broken spring some where. I think I have to start looking it.

LMC and Dennis carpenter sell those springs at a reasonable price. I picked up 2 at LMC last summer. The door, when properly held would only fall open if you had a brick in the glovebox
It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..

:iagree: The springs should be almost strong enough to suck the knob out of your fingers when you're closing it. :D

You could lose a finger in my glovebox if you are not careful!

The left side spring is missing. That will be an easy fix!

don't know about yours but mine have a thick spring on one side and a thin on the other... two thin springs work better than one but one of each work a whole lot better

Unibody Madness, what are you running for a rear bumper? Obviously not stock but it looks great!

I scored a set of glove box springs at the salvage yard today. I'm still not convinced it will stay shut. It doesn't seem to hold it that much more firmly. I'll test it in a day or so.

My box stays shut nicely with the 2 springs.

Let me tell ya though, I had a stroke of inspiration and made a Glovebox-box... The box is terrible if you have anything in there but, well, gloves.

Stuff falls out, you pile a bunch of stuff in there, and you never see the stuff in the back again....

SO I made a custom-fit cardboard box that slides out like a drawer and keeps everything neatly in order, stuff doesnt fall out when I'm diggin for some thing in 'the back' and it's easy!

The door does stay shut with both springs. Thanks for helping me realize one was missing!
