Re: Grill I D chart

I don't remember where I found this one, and I make no claim to it, but it's a good reference:

Re: looking for some thoughts and suggestions enginewise

I'd second what Greg D said. I have the '93 EFI 5.0 with a T-5 manual trans, and I love it. The truck is a blast to drive, sounds fantastic, and runs under 2k RPM @ 70mph all day (as long as you're not climbing long hills). Gets good MPG to boot. If I had it to do over though, I'd definitely check i...

Re: 90's aluminum rims on a slick?

You know what - I think that's what those are... 235/75/15.

FWIW, I put 255/70-15 BFG-TA's on Alice ('65 Shortbed) with the stock suspension and 15x7's and had no rubbing issues:

Re: 90's aluminum rims on a slick?

We picked up a set of those for Shep with nearly new tires. They fit great.

Re: Starting the project at last!

Yeah, thanks Mike - that's probably the best place to start... I wasn't sure that this welder had that option, but it looks like it might.

Re: Starting the project at last!

Looks great Andrew! I'm pretty much a novice welder myself, so I hope my attempts come out as well. I'm looking at the Millermatic 140 welder, but that Eastwood unit is about 1/3 the price... I'll have to check it out. I figure any of the gas shielded welders will provide better results than the Lin...

Re: Steering column modifications???

If I remember right, we had them section out 2" of the shaft. Here are some before/after pix: Before: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-_Cy9D894Q7Q/T2InSGr7zzI/AAAAAAAAAX8/_RyHMsvP95w/s640/column_before.jpg After: https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-QNwfBOpsh8U/T2InRT8IDPI/AAAAAAAAAX0/Nk2cnhUoN...

Re: Steering column modifications???

Shortened just the shaft. They took the section out of the shaft, ground the cut ends to a point, clamped them into a jig, tacked one side, rotated it to the other side, tacked it, then did slow fill welds, allowing it to cool and rotating the shaft in the jig to keep the distortion to a minimum, re...

Re: Steering column modifications???

I had my stock column shortened by my local rod shop here in town that knows what they're doing (Kingpin Hot Rods)... cost me $120, but I know it was done right. This allowed the stock steering wheel, and the stock rag joint flange. Works great.

Re: Trans cooler mounting question

Thanks for the skinny on that, Banjo - that makes sense. I really don't know yet how much stock stuff is left on this truck - still getting to know it. On the C6 on my '69, it leaked within the radiator section, got water into the system and corroded the guts of the C6 - so we ended up using an exte...

Re: Starting the project at last!

Looks like you're making solid progress. I'm really hoping that I don't have to take mine down that far, but I do have the Pope's holy floorboard on the driver's side. I think I'll try to patch it without removing the whole cab :P How are your drip rails? Oh, and what welder did you end up with? I'm...

Trans cooler mounting question

Ok, somehow I don't think that this is quite how the transmission cooler is supposed to be mounted - basically suspended between the hoses and a chain of zip ties: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-3h7zpVjxHv4/T1-AyqUYJiI/AAAAAAAAAXA/LLoZV4TqUaU/s576/DSCN3372.JPG Does anyone have a pic of how it's ...

Re: Stoked!

Whew... finally got the slick home around 11pm last night - had my bro go get it for me with the flatbed... not that it wouldn't make it, just hasn't been reg'd and is on non-op. That'll be taken care of monday morning and I can take her out for a spin. After going over the truck a little more close...

Stoked!

Picking up my pickup tomorrow morning! :D I've been waiting for this one - and can't wait to get started on it. I sold my '69 Ranger a little while back, and have been a sad puppy with no vintage iron in the driveway ever since. It's a clean, straight and mostly original local Nor-Cal '65 F100 Custo...

Thanks for the info guys. Steve, I'm pondering that idea of tapping into the taillight circuit - that might just work - as long as i can keep the brake light circuit separate so that the fronts don't blaze every time I step on the brakes... On another note, we got the steering column, 'armst...

Wiring parking lights

Hey all - new here, nice site! Just picked up a '66 Custom Cab longbed to feed my ford truck addiction. Been working on a '69 Ranger CS for a few years now, and it's almost done. I have a couple questions about the Slick: I was wondering if there's a quick/easy fix to keeping the front parking light...
