POR 15//A Lesson Learned

I got my first Slick and I learned a lesson about POR 15. My wife tells me to wear gloves while I work with it and I say I am ok. Well, a big gust of wind comes and takes my little tupperware container flying and like a dummy I try to catch it. I end up with quite a bit on my hands, shorts and toes. So to make a long story short I am not letting my wife knows she is right, so I steal her pumice stone/foot thing and try to get it off and it doesn't work. I call Uncle Skip, because I figure he would know how, afterall he has been a big help. Well, I guess I have to wear it for a couple of weeks. I got some off with 150 grit sand paper, anybody know some tricks...I am sure I am not the first and will not be the last...

Might try some acetone. Just don't leave it on to long. Then follow up with a hand cream, might have to get that from your wife.

Nope, kinda like a hangover, it's yours for a while. Did the same thing the 1st time I used it at work years ago and my boss said "Oh I forgot to tell you not to get it on your hands".

Don't feel bad, I was painting on a frame this last week while wearing shorts. I still have primer spots all over my lower legs.

Do you brush on the POR 15? Is spraying not an option?

be carefull spraying that stuff the over spray doesnt come off and the gun needs to be cleaned quickly or it will never work again

I could suggest trying the cheap engine degreaser from the dollar store if they have one in your area, it worked on some other stuff I couldnt get off with anything else

Hey guys I appreciate it. The best thing i used was gojo and fine sandpaper, there is still some there, but not as bad.

You skin will die in a few days and it will peel off...takes a few weeks to recover to the point you cant tell it was there.

You are right, end of day 3 some still there on palms and around fingernails, but not to bad. I'll wear gloves next time. The area that sre done look great though.

Z-man been there done that. Other lesson I learned. If there is any por in the lip you had better have a new can to put it in if you did not follow the instructions and put plastic on top before replacing lid IT WILL NOT F@#@#$!!#ing come off.

Been there done that also. Destroyed the lid getting it off

Everyone has the same horror stories. But I say this........I won't use the stuff EVER again. Did my frame and now 4 years later-no miles- it looks like crap and has come off in several spots. Never again!!!!!!!

The PO did my fairlane engine compartment.

He sanded it and prepped it as directed. It peeled off in sheets. A hideous mess.

I used it on my pitted Torino roof. I had a run I tried to knife off. It peeled a 3"x1/2" strip off. This was on a rusty areas that was cleaned with marine clean, treated with the prep and then painted.

Not sure what I'll do on my uni. Maybe bedliner material.

That is the direct opposite of my experience with the stuff.
painted my frame with it, the truck sat as a frame for 2 years while i dicked with the various schiesters (body men) who worked on my truck.

Used that POR'ed frame as an anvil more than a half dozen times, couldn't even scratch the POR. good shctuff that is. Takes a liking keeps on ticking. If you pounded on powdercoat the way I did, it would have fallen off there like glass.

Try brake fluid, as it ate some of the POR 15 off of some fresh sheet metal (the instructions say the metal needs a "tooth" such as pits or rust to hold best) The areas that the brake fluid leaked onto the POR 15 painted sheeted right off.

as with any metal coating product you need to make sure the surface is properly prepared, I did my front axel with por15 and cant even remove the product with a grinder unless i plan on gumming up the grinder wheel. as well brake fluid will eat away at any paint. if your worried about por15 look up KBS coatings they also have restoration products
