Anyone find paint that will stay on headers?
I bought some of this today but I'm skeptical. I was also thinking of using header wrap just so I don't have to look at the rust when everything else will be looking so good.

I have successfully used a product called "stove black", a paint? which is a high temp black coating for woodstoves.
It seems to last longer than anything else i have tried.

I agree. I had wrap on a set of pipes on my Harley that were installed correctly per the manufacturer. Worked great for a while, but I ride no matter what the weather. During the summer I found that both pipes coming out of the heads split uniformly in the same area. Unwrapped them and also found rust spots and more cracks on both. The part of the header that is most susceptible to rust and cracking from moisture would be the first foot or so coming off the head.Bill W wrote:my 2 cents on header wrap... it holds in moisture and will rust out a set of headers right quick.... just ask my neighbor.
I read a lot of debates on wrap and most agreed that they hold moisture even when you install them and seal them correctly. Long story short from my research on header material was that ceramic coating was the best route. Other than regular spray coating and replacing pipes every few years. I have a set of rusty headers on my Y Block and am dreading the cost of replacement. That's my 2 cents worth of experience anyway.

I get mine done here and they always come out very nice. They are good people to deal with and are not too far of a drive for you.
