Stopped at a guy's lot on Saturday to check out a rolling chassis for another project,, and the wife spotted this 64 Short Bed
i
n the mud at the back of the property. It's a Custom Cab with a 292 V8 (ran when parked LOL) and a 4 speed. The camper shell has supposedly been on the truck for quite some time so maybe the bed is in good shape. Couldn't get too good a look as that's good 'ole Louisiana gumbo surrounding the trucks and I had my "big boy" clothes on. I'll go back later this week and get a closer look. All body panels (or at least the one's I could see) seemed straight. I don't really need another truck but I can use a lot of the parts on my other projects and I hate to see one of these trucks either return to the earth or to the crusher. I'm hoping there's at least a couple of "innie" wheels in the bunch (the one you can see isn't). Supposedly the headliner, sunvisors and at least one door pocket are intact.
Forgot to mention...it's RED!

i could no longer keep "r.i.p.ing" all of our fallen brothers and sisters, so i say here, slick loads of love and much respect to all you beautiful people.
Looks like a previous owner didn't want the hood flying open.
From here, that little truck looks in decent shape. Let us know what the rest looks like when you go back.

If it starts to rain, they'll tax the splash.
If you want to fish, they'll tax the bass.
If you plant a yard, they'll tax the grass.
If you don't play nice, they'll fine your *$#!

Pushed in hood? Yeah, the current owners grown son finally admitted standing on the hood so he could see the beaver dam.

I was guessing by the screw holes on the front corners of the hood...looks like there was a padlock latch setup screwed on there at one time.

Boy you have good eyes. I didn't even notice that. Maybe it was a "race truck" with the hood pins? LOL. Not sure if it makes the truck "more" or "less" valuable?

I'm going back tomorrow to check it closer (was waiting for the mud to dry, but it rained again last night so I got some boots). Let me get it bought and get it home before I decide what to sell off. I may need the bed for an upcoming project, or I may want ot get a flairside bed instead. I'll let you know.

Thanks for the comments and requests. Give me a few weeks to get things sorted out and I'll get back to you'all on the various items. Obviously, I'm going to keep what I need/want and then sell off the remainder. Slick 60s members will always get first dibs.

UPDATE! I got the 64 Parts Truck bought on Friday and the seller delivered it on Tuesday (was supposed to be Sunday).
Named it RUSTY since it's red (of course) and has lots of surface rust. Couldn't wait to start stripping off the "almost impossible to find" exterior trim pieces and various small pieces that I will use on either the 64 SB or 63 Uni. Haven't found much in the way of rust through, except at the bottom of the tail gate. I still have to shovel out the crap from the bed and take the cover off to see what shape the bed floor is in and the same for the cab floor.
Didn't get to work on it today as it was raining and I also had to do some real work to pay the slick bills. The truck came originally with a 6 but now has a 292 V8, with the most unusual front motor mount bracket bolted to the front of the engine you've ever seen (I'll take pictures soon, maybe it's an aftermarket setup). I need to get some boxes so I can sort things out and keep up with the pieces. I was hoping to find at least one "innie" wheel in the bunch, but it wasn't to be. I even thought to look at the under bed spare in my Uni but it too has been "modernized".

292's bolted to the straight axle frame by a U shaped mount on the front of the engine (almost exactly the same bracket as for a 223/262). rear mounts were on the tranny bell to frame.
Oh I know what the bracket for the 292 in 61-64 Trucks looks like (I have one in my Uni). This is truly different.

Congrats on your newest addition to the red Slick family.
That is an odd mount, but the frame crossmember pieces sure look like they were born there. I'm not up enough on my 64's to say what that is.

wow that really is strange. If they were not born that way, they were done a long time ago... I just cant figure why they would make such a non standard mount...
'63 with 390 & lots of juice. But never enough. Always want more.
