Engine Color?
I have a Corinthien White 1962 Flare Side.
My existing 223 Motor is all Ford blue. Not sure if it's the original motor and/or original color. Does anyone know what the factory engine color was for a 223CID in a '62 F100? Should it be all one color or perhaps the valve cover a different color?
I want to pull the motor, clean, and paint it. Gonna paint the firewall/engine compartment black while the motor is out. Is it cool to do this and change the original white color of the firewall? I want to be able to sleep at night knowing I maintained the original character of my truck.
Or should I paint the engine a color to create contrast?
Thanks!

Trust me on this. The "correct" color for the the engine and air cleaner is black and the valve cover should be Ford Red (it's almost an orange).

The truck is Rangoon Red. You can see the difference between the "reds".Think Duplicolor makes the Ford Red in a rattle can. My engine looks much better now. This is an old picture.

Would it also be the same for a '64 223?

Mine is a 64 also. That color combination applies to 61-64 trucks as well as Y-Blocks (292's) for those years. Although mine is black I think it's "correct" for the firewall to be the same color as the exterior of the truck. Unless you have a show truck or are going for concours, the black hides a lot of blemishes.

My personal opinion (right, who asked).
If you're not building a 100 point concours car, paint it Ford blue and the firewall black. But it wouldn't be that hard to paint the firewall white.

The OP asked for the "original color". I was answering his question. You and he (and anyone else) can paint your trucks/engines any color you wish.
But my question would be why would you want to paint it "wrong" when you could paint it "correct". Why not just paint it Chevy Orange, Mopar Blue or even Hyundai Chartreuse?
My trucks are a long way from being "concourse" but I do like for them to be at least "period correct" if not "year correct" in appearance as much as possible (outside of technical and mechanical/safety upgrades).

That's what I meant Orange not Red. Actually the Chevy Orange is pretty close to the Ford Red. I"ve yet to find the Ford Red in a powder coat powder, the Chevy Orange is about as close as you're going to get.BigMike wrote:There is always Chebby orange
