The welds look like they are cold. It's going to be hard to get enough heat with that small of a machine. A well penetrated weld will be flat on the edges of the weld and not look like it is just piled on the metal. It is hard for me to describe, but once you get it figured out it makes sense to you...

put tranny in gear, you will be able to turn output shaft to spline the shaft into the clutch(if wheel are in air or driveshaft is unhooked). when it is splined in the clutch and all you lack is the pilot bushing, have someone push in on the clutch and a little wiggling and it will slide right in. C...

Gary, if you don't already have the C6, I would seriously consider an aod. My dad and I just built one and put it in my uni behind a 351C. With just a few small mods, a really stout unit. :2cents: Chris

Alan, there has been some talk on the cleveland forum about this. It's been awhile, but if I remember correctly, they are using them from a late model 302. Chris

Johnny, thanks for the kind thoughts. It was really diffucult for my wife and I. He was diagnosed with perthes disease. No one anywhere close to here has heard of it in small town america. We were sent to a childrens orthopedic surgeon in a bigger town about and hour away, and the doctor didn't feel...

I'm no painter by no means, but I figure I can spend a little money and learn. When it comes to the bodywork, if I don't feel comfortable, I guess I'll have to have someone else do it. I just like to be able to say that I did it myself. I spend alot of time in the computer late at night doing resear...

I have been working on the uni quite a little lately. Replacing the np 435 and dana 21 combo with an aod and borg warner 1356 combo. I made me a new patch for the floor where someone had torched a big hole for the shifters. I took my plasma cutter and straightened the hole up for easier fitment and ...

All the factory 8 lugs will fit until the '99 up super duty. Ford then went to the 8 on 170mm bolt pattern. Chevy and dodge still use the 8 on 6.5 like the old fords. Chris

I installed a 76 ps box on a 66 4x4 frame with the coil spring front axle. Hardest part was laying out the bolt pattern. I cut the holes in the frame and used 1/2 inch sch 80 pipe to go all the way through the frame and welded them in. This allowed me to pull from both pieces of the frame and streng...

My truck is a 63 short uni on a 66 4x4 frame. It had the np 435 4-speed and the dana 21 single speed transfer case. The output shaft snapped in two between the trans and transfer case.

I,m getting ready to order the lokar cable and throttle spring kit to match it. My dad runs a tranny shop, so I have a little bit of an advantage to get the good parts to make it strong and live a long life. Just kind of curious how difficult it will be as far as the crossmember goes. It is riveted ...

When I bought the truck, I was told it was on a 78 bronco chasis. Supposedly a 351m, but after investigating I found out it is on a 66 pickup chasis and it has 351c 2v.

aod swap

Just curious if anyone has done an aod swap into their slick. On the way to dad's shop this morning to paint the wheels for the unibody, and the output shaft on the tranny snapped off between the tranny and transfer case. I pulled it out and checked the carnage this morning. Looks like the aod upgra...

I would personally try to find a place that could soda blast it for you. We have one at work and it is so much better than sand in my opinion as far as warping. It leaves the metal really clean and is easier to clean up than sand in my opinion. Chris

I went to the salvage yard and picked up a steering box and pump with bracket. I pulled off the box and pump myself to save a little money and that way I got all the bolts and lines and brackets. My particular setup came off a '76 f-100 4x4. I took a picture of the box mounted to the frame at severa...
